Eucalyptus Flower Honey
Native to Australia introduced centuries ago to India, Europe and South Africa. There are many species of eucalyptus trees that includes varieties like Gum and Silver-Dollar trees. Interesting bark and foliage with beautiful flowers and a nice fragrance with a rapid growth reaching heights to about 30 to 180 feet or more. Requires a sunny environment to grow while some species of it may tolerate areas with semi-shade, adapting to a range of soils. The interesting part is that all these species of Eucalyptus are very attractive to honeybees but the honey extracted is usually harvested from Eucalyptus globulus, well-known evergreen tree. Normal colored honey, dull tone and medium dark intensity. Flavored medium strong caramel, woody and warm. Medium sweet, bitterness absent and weak acidity.
Good antiseptic used for healing wounds, ulcer and burns. Effective on insect bites and stings. Recommended to patients suffering from joint , muscles and even nerve pain. Considered a good remedy for respiratory problems, gastrointestinal diseases and fungal infections.
